Seventeen beauties from every coiner of the county will be on stage Frioay night, and one of them will walk off as “Miss \ancey’\ And she will bv wear ing a crown to prove it. hhe first Miss \ancey Contest Will be held in the East Yancey H.gh School auditor.um, begin ning at 7:30 p. m. And a winner and one runner up and Miss C ngenial ty will be selected by the judges. On Friday afternoon a tea will he given by the Yancey Merchants Association at the Nu-Wray Inn for the contestants and judges. Miss Teressa Coletta will be hostess at the tea. Judges will interview the girls at the tea as part of the judging. The g rle will be judged on talent and evening gowns. Judges for the grand event will be Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gudger of Asheville and Mr. Myron Syme of Marion. Mr. Syme, who is president of the Marion Jaycees, has helped in judging the Miss North Caro lina Contest, and many other beauty contests. Mr. Gudger, past president of Asheville Jaycees and past Jaycee Natonal Director, was named "Young Man of the Year” in Kannapolis in 1952 and in Asheville in 1960. He has judged more than 100 local pageant 3. These include Miss South Caro lina, Miss Illinois, Miss Ken tucky and ethers. He is asso ciated w th the Paul Revere Life Insurance Company in Asheville. Mrs. Gudger, the former Miss Mary Frances Jarvis, has judg ed more than seventy-five bead ty pageants. On the program Friday night will be 0. W. Deyton, Chairman of the Commissioners of Yan .cey County, who will give in troductory remarks. William A. Banks will be master of cere monies. And Mss Sheri Lisa Banks of Burnsville and Miss Beverly Dobbins of Spruce Pine will sum sh entertainment. Miss Dobbins holds the title of Miss Spruce P'ne. The contestants and their part in the talent portion of the pag eant are as follows: Kay Evans, piano solo; Anita Anglin, organ solo; Peggy Anne Higgins, mageal act; Irene Coletta, monologue; Pat Letter man, song; Shelia Regina Tur byfill, p ano solo; Judy Ann Grindstaff, monologue; Wanda Riddle, song; Valerie Sue Ed wards, describe ba r styles. Linda Kay Towe, monologue; Pat Briggs, piano solo; Wanda Lee Gregory, song; Sandra Gail Buckner, tap daneng; Patricia Randolph, piano solo; Soyna Dean Bailey, dance routine; Irma Celeste Miller, modeling; Bobb ! Fox, solo. Ushers for the event win be Martha Fave Duncan, Judy Phillips, Jeannie Rav, Jeann'e B gpcrstaff, Marcia Banks, and Woodv. Wnners of the beauty pageant wi’l reoei’e trmhies and cash prires.
